I was one of those lucky enough to get a copy of Alone II - The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo the day it came out. And I didn't realize how lucky I was until now that I also got to spend an evening up-close and personal with Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo and about 100 of his hardcore fans this Tuesday.
At the time, I absorbed the entire event as somewhat of an outsider because in all honesty, the only songs I knew before this in-store were Undone (The sweater song) and Buddy Holly. I can honestly say I never owned a Weezer song in my life. Luckily, a last minute change in plans made it possible for me to attend and document all the details of the Rivers Cuomo hootenanny at Fingerprints in Long Beach and pick up a copy of Alone II. The event really was a hoot and Rivers Cuomo is a musician with diverse influences and flexibility which makes his new CD more like a historical journey than a snapshot of a man.
