The Upside of Anger (2005) – Take Another Look

The characters in this movie Denny Davies (Kevin Costner) and Terry Ann Wolfmeyer (Joan Allen) dramatize a perfect example of how:
  1. Things aren't always what they seem
  2. We create our own version of reality
  3. Staying stuck in our 'story' robs us of living life today.
I can't go into too much detail without giving away the ending which is sure to bring a few tears to your eyes. Luckily...for Joan Allen's character and the rest of us, there can be an upside to anger, especially if we are willing to change our perspective and look at alternate possibilities.

Galvanized Facebook Friday 12-31-10 – Scott Walker and Scouring the Digital Underground

When I'm at my computer surfing the web, I feel like I'm Captain James T. Kirk at the control panels of the Starship Enterprise.  I speed past information at warp speed but some of it is worth looking at more than once.  When that happens, I generally swipe the link, or click on "like" so I can at least be reminded of the information and go back to it later if possible. Tomorrow is the first day of 2011 and I've been working in the background diligently for a re-launch and restructuring of my blog.  One of the things I want to do is savor and share the top highlights from my Facebook wall so I can remember them for longer than 10 seconds.  I'm so excited about this new feature that I decided to start today, even though it's not officially 2011 yet. Happy New Year and if you're ready to galvanize your life, I invite you to join me. Subscribe or comment on this blog to get involved. Here's the line up I have to keep you galvanized in 2011: M – Master Mind Monday T – Musical Tuesday W – Galvanize Your Mind Wednesday Th – Galvanize Your Body Thursday F – Fun and Fabulous Friday Now, going back to Facebook Friday. One of the highlights of my week was watching Scott Walker: 30 Century Man. I didn't even know who he was until I saw the movie on Netflix. This is one deep movie about a serious artist. After checking out the movie, I decided to go to iTunes and browse the Scott Walker selection. I haven't purchased anything yet but I think I will be adding Scott Walker to my collection very soon. Let me know if you have any Scott Walker recommendations. On Sunday I "attended" AgapeLive, did you know they have streaming services? Pretty cool. Here's a link. While I was preparing for the Galvanized Music Countdown it was like a long walk down memory lane and I loved hearing some of the old songs. I moved some of my content from past blogs to this location. I came across photos from the Marilyn Monroe Exhibit on the Queen Mary and my trip to Phyllis Diller's mansion. Good memories. I'm looking forward to 52 Fun and Fabulous Friday's in 2011 and FYI, I will be posting events on Friday's and I'm especially interested in promoting roller derby and music so send me your stuff if you want to be listed. Happy New Year.

William Kunstler Film in the Running for Top Honors

In WILLIAM KUNSTLER: DISTURBING THE UNIVERSE, filmmakers Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler explore the life of their father, the late radical civil rights lawyer. In the 1960s and 70s, Kunstler fought for civil rights with Martin Luther King Jr. and represented the famed "Chicago 8" activists who protested the Vietnam War. When the inmates took over Attica prison, or when the American Indian Movement stood up to the federal government at Wounded Knee, they asked Kunstler to be their lawyer. This documentary brings to life a forgotten history of progressive struggles for justice and change in this country over the last half century. It communicates that the world we inherit is better because someone struggled for justice, and that those changes will survive only if we continue to fight. It is a film that needs to be seen. I recently showed it in my Introduction to Victimology class to provide examples of the unspoken dynamics of power and control that exist in our culture and underly crimes against humanity. Filmmakers Emily and Sarah Kuntsler, William's daughters, are trying to raise the profile of the film, so they can have a shot at top honors, which would help William Kunstler: Disturbing The Universe reach millions. If you'd like to support them, you can make a tax-deductible donation at the Fractured Atlas website. You can see a clip from the movie above or on You Tube. This clip highlights Kunstler's powerful speech on the "Terrible Myth" on law and legality. Please share this link with your friends and colleagues and help spread the word about this important film. You can find rental copies at Netflix. Here is the text of the Terrible Myth speech: And that is the terrible myth of organized society, that everything that's done through the established system is legal - and that word has a powerful psychological impact. It makes people believe that there is an order to life, and an order to a system, and that a person that goes through this order and is convicted, has gotten all that is due him. And therefore society can turn its conscience off, and look to other things and other times. And that's the terrible thing about these past trials, is that they have this aura of legitimacy, this aura of legality. I suspect that better men than the world has known and more of them, have gone to their deaths through a legal system than through all the illegalities in the history of man. Six million people in Europe during the Third Reich? Legal. Sacco Vanzetti? Quite legal. The Haymarket defendants? Legal. The hundreds of rape trials throughout the South where black men were condemned to death? All legal. Jesus? Legal. Socrates? Legal. And that is the kaleidoscopic nature of what we live through here and in other places. Because all tyrants learn that it is far better to do this thing through some semblance of legality than to do it without that pretense.

Song of the Week – 11-23-10 – Runaway by Kanye West

This week's song is so much more than just music to listen to. The video is a visual, audio and video masterpiece with powerful imagery and a strategically placed, powerful bass line. This hypnotic work of art will take you on a mental and emotional journey and will stimulate your consciousness to go places it's never been. Hopefully, it will free you from the shackles you've placed upon yourself and others. I highly recommend watching it uninterrupted on full screen. Motivatorman for Movie Expert on the New Marilyn Denis Show

Emmanuel Lopez (aka Motivatorman) is the guy behind the movie blog at http://www.motivatorman.blogspot.com/. His blog has been featured in the Washington Post and the Toronto Star. Lopez helps build optimistic mindsets through articles in Zoomer Magazine, Examiner.com and empowering keynotes and seminars at organizations such as TD Canada Trust, Ontario Ministry of Finance, The Art Institute of Boston and Royal Ontario Museum. He has just put together an audition video for the Marilyn Denis Show (see above or on YouTube). I think the audition video is worth watching because Motivatorman talks about how movies, and especially the stories they tell, can be transformational. If anyone deserves to have his own show, it's Emmanuel. Everyone can relate to movies and we are in a time period where we need simple solutions that most people can access readily. “Business is Booming” for Nazi Killah’s aka ‘The Basterds’

Certain quotes from the movie Inglourious Basterds galvanize me. One of them is by Aldo the Apache, a Jewish-American, warrior-like soldier with Native-American traits. "You probably heard we ain't in the prisoner-takin' business. We in the killin' Nazi's business, and cousin business is a booming," he says. Envision these words delivered by Brad Pitt with a thick Tennessee drawl just moments before "The Bear Jew" bashes in the brains of a Nazi soldier to "leave a message for Hitler." Basically this movie is a revenge fantasy about kickin' ass and standing up for what you believe in. Quentin Tarantino did a great job of delivering this message in a mind-bending way that leaves a lasting impact. Movies and the Mind with Motivatorman Emmanual Lopez

What the Bleep Do We Know?, Invention of Lying and Inception. These are a few of the movies we talked about on The Sheri and Erin Show this past Thursday. We also talked about the song "Don't Fight the Darkness" by Yacht (listen above or on YouTube). This episode is all about movies and the mind. Our guest was the one and only Motivatorman Emmanual Lopez. Once you listen to this episode, you'll be asking yourself, "Are my thoughts "reality" or do I create my reality with my thoughts?" --------------- Start a Master Mind Group.comWhen you think about it, every musical act you know of is using the Master Mind principle whether they realize it or not. Changing Lanes: Every Choice Counts

Changing Lanes (2002) Starring: Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Afleck. This movie takes you on a psychological journey through the lives of two fairly ordinary but totally different men. It shows what a life-altering impact we can each make on one another. It dramatizes the delicate line we all walk between a good, smooth life and a life of chaos. One choice at a time.
