Get Galvanized with the Chemical Brothers

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
One of the tracks that keeps me galvanized is Galvanize by The Chemical Brothers The tune is very cool, I like the beat and it features Q-tip who is one of my favorites (I'm a big A Tribe Called Quest fan). The lyrics are also very motivating. It's basically about pursuing your passion/dream and letting go of fear of what others will think. I would have to say this song is almost like an anthem for my life right now. I actually hear myself saying "push the button" when I'm ready to take a big risk such as a scary phone call I have to make or sending my 'stuff' out to the world. It gives me the extra 'umph' to do things I would rather put off until 'tomorrow.' Here's a video for you to watch. If you can't see it below, click here and see it on YouTube.

The Chemical Brothers to Release New Album “Further” On June 8, 2010

Sunday, April 4th, 2010
The Chemical Brothers are set to release their seventh studio album, Further, on June 8, 2010 on Freestyle Dust/Parlaphone/Astralwerks. This album is the band’s first to be released with corresponding films made specifically to match each of the 8 audio tracks. The films will be included on an iTunes LP and special edition DVD. Nearly three years on from the release of their GRAMMY® Award winning and fifth consecutive UK Number 1 album We Are The Night (the album that contains the song Galvanize with Q-tip on vocals), Further sees Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons explore the boundless possibilities of their sound. Further is the culmination of nearly two decades of psychedelic exploration, an immersive collection that finds The Chemical Brothers at their least-restrained and most-melodic best. Further is the band’s first proper partnership with long-time visuals collaborators Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall. Now a respected TV and film director, Adam – aka Flat Nose George - has created visuals for to correspond with each track on the album Further. The band will play four shows at London's Roundhouse in May. and they will also play select festivals in Europe including Sonar Festival in Barcelona. Then, they will come to the US for summer dates including gigs at the Hollywood Bowl on August 29 and Electric Zoo at Randall's Island in New York City on September 4. I hope to be one of the lucky audience members in attendance at the Hollywood Bowl on August 29. Listen to or buy songs from The Chemical Brothers on iTunes today.

Galvanize Your Mind Now – Pilot on You Tube

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010
First there was a Flip Video camera, given to someone like me who loves gadgets, has an idea a minute and some time off for the holidays. Second there is the resulting video. In less than two minutes I will list seven things that Galvanize My Mind. (Maybe they'll galvanize your mind too): 1. Strolling the streets of Bluff Park with my iPod 2. Going to the farmer's market 3. Snuggling with my cat 4. Working out on the bluff with Your Next Victory 5. Visualizing my ideal 2010 and beyond 6. Reading good Tweets 7. Watching Hello Ross on YouTube This and more captured in my "not quite 2 minute" video. If you can't see the video here, watch it on You Tube. You'll see me doing push-ups at the beach with a pink wig on and you'll meet Fenix, my persian tabby cat. One of my favorite clips is "Boys on Bikes." I was out strolling the sidewalks of Bluff Park in Long Beach with my Flip Video in hand and a group of about 10 young men on skateboards and bicycles rode by, it was pretty exciting. Some of us screamed in joy. Including me. It's on video. itunes_iconI practiced with using audio clips in the video. I sampled Galvanize by the Chemical Brothers, and Express Yourself By The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band. Songs like these and more can be found on the latest "Songs to Galvanize Your Mind" PDF. Free to all new blog subscribers today. Get it here. At the end of this video I mention a Create the Life You Want free hypnosis MP3 download. You can get it at icreathabits.com Dare to Galvanize Your Mind Today.

Welcome to my new blog

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008
I'm likin' how this Word Press blog works.  I decided it's time to consolodate my two existing blogspot accounts for one blog that encompasses everything.  I'm thinking of it as an on-line magazine.  I wanna talk about books, music, fashion, the mind, spirituality, body image, self-esteem and one of my favorite things right now: LA Derby Doll roller derby. I just returned from the bout vs. San Diego Derby Dolls and the energy in the room was electrifying to say the least.  I am hoarse.  A couple of times I had to put my finger in my ear because the shrill of screams and whistles was vibrating my ear hairs :) I am gonna post some pictures later from the game.  Ira, age 92 was there.  She is a big supporter of the Dolls.  Krissy Krash's grandma came in her wheel chair and I'm pretty sure rinkrat got a photo of Myna Threat's mom and grandma shopping in vendor village. What I love about Derby is how "real" it feels.  Even though everyone is playing somewhat of a persona with their made-up derby names and all, I sense that their personas are more real than the face they wear at their "day job." I skate with the Derby Dolls during Fresh Meat practice.  I chose the skate name Gal VanIZed.  I loved the idea of having a name that said "I'm a woman, I'm proud to be a woman and I am strong."  I swear, having the name has changed me. But it didn't make me something I wasn't, It made me more of who I am. My name was also inspired by the song Galvanize by the Chemical Brothers. Here are the lyrics: don't hold back... 'cause you woke up in the mornin', with initiative to move, so why make it harder... don't hold back... if you think about it, so many people do, be cool man, look smarter.... don't hold back... and you shouldn't even care, 'bout those noses in the air, and their crooked stares... don't hold back... 'cause there's a party over here, so you might as well be here, where the people care... don't hold back... the world, is holdin back... the time has come to... the world, is holdin back... the time has come to... the world, is holdin back... the time has come to... galvanize! c'mon, c'mon c'mon.... don't hold back... if you think about it too much, you may stumble, trip up, fall on your face... don't hold back... we think it's time you get up, crunch time, like a sit up, come on keep pace... don't hold back... put apprehension on the back burner, let it sit, dont even get it lit... don't hold back... get involved with the jam, don't be a prick, hot chick, be a pick.... don't hold back... the world, is holdin' back... the time has come to... the world, is holdin' back... the time has come to... the world, is holdin' back... the time has come to... galvanize! c'mon, c'mon c'mon.... world, the time has come to... push the button... world, the time has come to... push the button... world, the time has come to... push the button... world, my finger, is on the button... my finger, is on the button... my finger, is on the button... push the button... the time has come to... galvanize! I told my husband the first time I heard this song: "This is my anthem." One of the coolest things about it is that Q-tip drops the rhymes. The words are set to a hip hop, indian/tribal theme that evokes a feeling of unity and world peace. Here's the video. I had to watch it a couple of times before I realized the symbolism and hidden meanings in the make up choices and coreography. I wrote to the Chemical Brothers and told them about why I chose my name and asked if they would send a Chemical Brothers sticker or ideally a Galvanize sticker. They did something very cool: they sent a pack of "Push The Button" stickers. I put one on the front and one on the back of my helmet. Here's a picture here. If any of the Dolls want one, let me know. Skating in Fresh Meat Practice, Showing off my Push the Button sticker from the Chemical Brothers
