Galvanized Facebook Friday 04-22-11 Rapper’s Delight, Being a Girl and Facing Fear
Reply
Last week I said I was going to be open to incorporating sex and sexiness into my overall message. I also have been on a long run of incorporating music into my life and career and facing every fear head on, especially in regards to my public speaking and daring to use my own authentic voice when I communicate.
Well, I guess you could say I "killed three birds with one stone" because last night at Long Beach City College, I took all of my Stress Management students to open mic night and then performed in front of them and about 50 other people. There were close to 100 people there.
In 5 minutes, I faced too many fears to name and what I know is that I have just become more galvanized.
Here's a video of the performance. It's titled "That's What Girls Do" and it's my way of speaking out about authenticity, being a strong girl/woman, "don't judge a book by it's cover", stop the violence, have fun and dance...among other things.
I do some rapping in the piece, mainly from Rapper's Delight by Sugar Hill Gang. I also sing some Salt-n-Pepa, Let's Talk about Sex. I hope it helps you get galvanized. If it does, please share it with a friend. I'm looking for members to join my galvanized gang. It's much funner to dance with others.
