Simplify Your Life so You Can Hear Yourself Think
Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011
Here's a tip inspired from a deck of cards called "52 Ways to Simplify Your Life" by Lynne Gordon.
"In order to hear yourself think, shut off or cut down on the amount of media information you inhale, absorb, and digest...Media overconsumption is a good way to numb yourself to more personal issues. Try a media down day once a week or more and begin to enjoy the local broadcasting from your own brain."
I might add, media overconsumption can lock you into the mentality that "I'm too fat", "I'm not good enough" or "I don't fit in" which often fuels depression and anxiety that prompts undesired behavior like overeating or overspending.
Take Time To Do What You Love
Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Some of us overeat to fill a void or because we feel bored or unfulfilled in life. For your own mental, emotional and physical health, take time to do something you're passionate about, even if it's only a few hours a week. The increased energy and enthusiasm you'll experience will affect other areas of your life.
You might find this increased energy helps you forget about food. Perhaps your enthusiasm will motivate you to exercise and eat right. If you take time to do what you love, it can't help but impact your life in a positive way.
Some of us have been "blah" or downtrodden for so long that we don't even know what we're passionate about or we can't remember the last time we felt passionate. If that's the case for you, dedicate time each day to just write about things you're grateful for or things you've done in the past which were enjoyable. Try to think about why you enjoyed those things. With time and persistence you will begin to reacquaint yourself with your values, your passion and your own inner-self.

Feeling Good by Nina Simone Lyrics
Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Reeds driftin on by you know how I feel
(refrain:)
Its a new dawn
Its a new day
Its a new life
For me
And Im feeling good
Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom in the tree you know how I feel
(refrain)
Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, dont you know
Butterflies all havin fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
Thats what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me
Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
