iPod Playlist and PowerPoint Presentation for Toastmasters “All One People” Contest

When it comes to creating a vibe of unity and diversity, nothing can beat the combined power of music and images.  This week, I was asked to provide the music and visuals for the District One Tall Tales and International Speech Contest in Culver City.  The theme was All One People.  I pulled a diversity of images from Google as well as my own collection and I chose songs that create and All One People feel. If you're a Toastmaster and would like to use this PowerPoint for your next presentation please feel free.  It's available below as PowerPoint and PDF. I would like to ask that you keep the Agape Toastmasters group photo and the Get Galvanized photo in the mix but otherwise you can edit and add your own flair to it.

"All One People" PowerPoint "All One People" PDF Two of the songs I played at the contest are not on iTunes, but the rest are.  If you click on the links below you can go to iTunes and get the track directly.  What I did was save the playlist to my iPod then took the iPod to the contest and plugged it into the sound board. The music played over the P.A. and created a festive, party-like feel. Some people spontaneously shook their hips and snapped their fingers and the overall vibe of the event was flowing and fun. How to Make a Workout Playlist in iTunes

A great way to galvanize your mind and your body is with music and thanks to the iPod, your music selection is portable. Just in case you don't know how to make a workout playlist on your iPod, here are some guidelines: 1. Open iTunes 2. Click on "File" and choose "New Playlist" 3. You will see a new playlist appear off to the left of your library titled "untitled playlist" 4. Name it whatever you want. I call mine "Workout" 5. Add all your favorite, upbeat songs here (you can click and drag from your library into the new playlist) and next time you exercise, you can go straight to your workout list and begin feeling motivated right away. Before you know it, you'll have so much fun you won't even know you're exercising. In fact, why not dance instead of going to the gym or get real fun and funky on the treadmill. Next thing you know, it will be time to stop....but maybe you won't want to! Oh, by the way, if you have more music in your library than your iPod can fit, (like I do) be sure to select the "workout" playlist in your iPod options so your workout playlist is always with you. Here's how: When your iPod is connected to the computer, click on the "music" tab. This is where you choose which playlists you want to have on your iPod. Be sure to click on your new Workout list so you can always have it with you and you can exercise anytime you want. If you don't have an iPod, why not make a CD or cassette with all your favorite tunes on it? This will inspire you to move even when you're not in the mood!

What Are Your Influences?

Every musical act has influences. The Beastie Boys and A Tribe Called Quest influenced each other. Punk bands from the U.K. influenced garage bands in Southern California and vice versa. Reggae and dub influenced each other. What are your influences? That's what we talked about in Helping and Listening Skills this week. We came up with a great list and I liked it so much I took a picture of it. I asked the students to tell me about the things that influence them. What do they value? Why do they do what they do; love what they love? This is the list they came up with: Parents Environment -Friends -Neighborhood -Peers -Religion Culture Schools Food/Nutrition Media Mental Illness Life Experience -Observation Socio-Economic Status ($$$) Books Music Relationships Friendships Family -Uncles -Aunts -Brothers -Sisters -etc. Role Model -Coach -Minister -Teacher Law Government Health Medication/Drugs Language Sleep Fashion Freedom Travel Pets Sex Arts -Pictures -Painting -Dance Entertainment Perception The point I want to make in this class is that you cannot know any of these things about yourself or anyone else unless you first learn how to listen. A great Master Mind group is one that's committed to honoring and respecting each other and that includes listening unconditionally and without judgment. It is honoring a person to trust that they know what's best for their own life. --------------- Start a Master Mind Group.comWhen you think about it, every musical act you know of is using the Master Mind principle whether they realize it or not. They are joining together as a team with a combined vision. You can use the same principle and make some truly rockin' things happen in your life. Do you have a creative project you want to complete? Do you want to find a purpose for your life? If so, I invite you to come over to my brand new page called Start a Master Mind Group.com. I'm offering 4 freebies to get you started so you can get a sense of what the Master Mind is all about. There's nothing cool about holding back.

My iPod is my Guru

What a crazy weekend this has been. Actually, it started on Thursday with The Sheri and Erin Show. I'll fill you in on the details later. But let's just say that after a wild night at Funk Fest, a fun day in L.A. for a photo shoot and a Master Mind breakfast with Erin, I am pumped up. When my energy is too intense to contain, I put my iPod on shuffle and go for a walk. It's awesome how the songs that come up at random are always in line with where things are in life right now. Here's what I heard today on my walk, do you notice a theme? (Click on links to preview or buy these songs on iTunes). Gratitude (Live at Budokan) by Beastie Boys The Skills to Pay the Bills (Original Version) by Beastie Boys O Holy Night by Nat King Cole Money Grows on Trees (remix feat. Kiana) by The Sky Beneath Climax (Girl Shit) by Slum Village Thoughts of Yesterday by T.S.O.L. Conscious Man by Dr. Alimantado Retreat (Drum and Bass song from unknown artist) Get the Songs to Galvanize Your Mind playlist, available for immediate download.

Is My iPod Psychic?

Today I was feeling like I needed a little pick-me-up. I needed to get off my butt and get my Endorphins pumping so I could tap into my inner warrior. So, I got out my bike, put some air in my tires, turned on my iPod (set on shuffle) and took off. Here is what I heard. A perfect selection of songs to get me in the Gal Vanized mood once again: (All links go to iTunes unless otherwise noted) Guerillas In The Mist by Consolidated (this link goes to the MP3 download of a very rare, controversial piece of music speaking out against white supremacy) The Captain Kangroo Theme song (good for tapping into childlike spirit if you were a kid in the 70's) Stomp by Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation Something's Got to Give by The Beastie Boys She's a Woman by The Beatles (Listen on YouTube) Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine by James Brown ---------------------------------------------------- If you like music that pumps you up and makes you feel strong, get the free Songs to Galvanize Your Mind PDF. --------------------------------------------------- Use your mind to Create the Life You Want with my free hypnosis audio at icreatehabits.com
