Song #6 of the 2009 Galvanized Music Countdown

Song six on the countdown was released 30 years ago but thanks to YouTube, this year I experienced the song in a new way. I used to listen to PiL on my walkman and I always felt energized. Sometimes I even danced around when I heard it. But it never occurred to me that groups of young people would be going wild about it on American Banstand.
John Lydon sure did know how to activate a crowd and watching him in action makes it worth bringing this song out of the vault.

Song seven on the countdown is perfect for celebrating the season. The track is titled, One Tribe by the Black Eyed Peas and it's all about unity and music.
This tune was the song of the week on June 9. Which is the day their album The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies) was released. I posted a blog with lyrics if you'd like to read along as you listen.

Between Christmas Eve and New Years Eve I will post my top eight favorite songs of the year. These tunes were selected from the 51 songs of the week that were submitted by Michael Zampelli during 2009.
Song number eight is Fight Riff by Eula. I like DIY feel of the video, reminiscent of the Clash and other artists from London who used the desert or an industrial wasteland as their set.
Singer Elyse exudes an artistic flair with punk rock edge. It's a fun song with a strong beat and great to have on my iPod and listen to while I'm out for a walk. I recommend purchasing the entire Language of Threat EP. In the meantime, you can see the YouTube video here.

The Almighty Defenders strike me as a rockabilly gospel band. They dress in gospel choir robes on stage and have an eclectic Elvis, meets bar band, meets Motown sound. I discovered them while listening to XMU. Each time they played Cone of Light, I found myself looking down at the satellite receiver to catch the name of the artist and track. I did this enough times that it finally stuck. I came home, looked them up on iTunes and knew I would not be satisfied until I owned this entire album and could play it whenever and wherever I wanted.Check out The Almightly Defenders on iTunes.

The new Tongue 'N' Cheek LP by Dizzee Rascal blends old school hip hop and trip hop influences and lays them on top of boomin' drum and bass beats.
Vapors of Prince and Bob Marley pass by now and again along with memories of 70's funkmasters.
This is a release for fun-loving party people who like to live life with a heavy pulse.
Dizzee Rascal released the Tongue "N" Cheek LP on September 21 in the UK, It is not currently available on iTunes so I'm not sure if it's available in the US but CDNow.com seems to have some in stock.
The 11 track release has a strong flavor of Basement Jaxx mixed with Groove Armada. If you liked Wild Cherry, KC and the Sunshine Band or Groove is in the Heart by Dee Lite, you should like this just fine.
