Fat Rant by Joy Nash

Friday, February 4th, 2011
I know this video has been around a little while but I think it's worth brining back to life for another view.  Joy Nash actually has the audacity to say "so what" to fat and to "enjoy your life now...whether or not you're 'fat'".  This is a funny fat rant from someone who's not afraid to admit she weights 224 and "life goes on." She also reminds viewers that diets fail 95-98% of the time.  It's almost a freak accident if you lose weight from dieting and keep it off. A great way to nurture confidence is to learn to love your body and yourself as you are is to change your mindset from self-hate to self-love. Study Says: Weight Not Necessarily an Indicator of Health

Thursday, January 13th, 2011
I recently read a great article on the Our Bodies Our Blog.org about how weight is not always an indication of health. Also disputes the validity of the BMI as an accurate measure of health. The article quotes MaryFran Sowers as saying of the BMI, "the system would put nearly half of NBA players in the overweight category."

MP3 File
This past Tuesday morning I spoke at the Kiwanis Club in Bixby Knolls (Long Beach, CA). I decided to record the presentation and I'm publishing it here as a pocast. You can listen here or click the download MP3 button to download to your computer. You can also subscribe to the show in iTunes. In this show I talk about many things including:

  • How fashion magazines can wreak havoc on a young girl's self-esteem
  • What hypnosis REALLY is
  • How the advertising industry is selling you an illusion and why you buy it anyway
  • Quotes from Ekhart Tolle and Fattening of America by Eric Finkelstein
  • My personal story of how I pulled out of a 25 year struggle with weight, eating and body image
  • Quotes from a 2007 UCLA report that said you'd be better off not dieting
  • Portion Distortion report from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Obesity Initiative
  • How the economy impacts obesity
  • How a particular radio show changed the course of my life
  • Seven Strategies for Stress-Free Slimming exposed
  • How 100 extra calories a day can lead to a 10 lb a year weight gain
  • I'm getting more and more Gal VanIZed all the time. The show is about 25 minutes long. I hope it galvanizes you too. Check out my speaker profile
