Musical Road Trip to the California Poppy Reserve

Friday, May 7th, 2010
(If you don't see the video above, click here to go to YouTube) On Tuesday morning my husband came into the bedroom, where I was comfortably sleeping and proclaimed "road trip". We got in the car and drove to a destination that was a surprise to me. We ended up at the California Poppy Reserve in Antelope Valley. Along the way, we listened to music non-stop and documented the day with photos and video. In a sense, this is a mix-tape of our trip. All the car shots have music in the background. ------------------------------------------- See Michael Zampelli's photo gallery on Flickr. ------------------------------------------- We listened to Q-tip, Gary Numan, drum and bass and The Fall. We traveled from the 710 in Long Beach to the 5 freeway at Castaic Lake. Then, we took mountain roads all the way to the poppy fields. I hope this video inspires you to get out on the road or out in nature. I think we all truly need this type of rejuvenation for our sanity. California is a great place to live. Long Beach Has Soul and Spirit

Walking to see the angel at Phoneix and CrowYesterday's front page headline in the Long Beach Press Telegram was: Long Beach's `soul' rates high. I would have to agree. Not only does Long Beach have soul, it has spirit. In fact, just today I was walking to the pharmacy and I got touched by an angel. Literally. Technically I got hugged by an angel and I have photos to prove. This angel was in the window as part of a promotion for stores on Broadway Avenue, such as Phoenix and Crow. Other special treats on the Avenue included an extremely authentic pirate couple complete with dirty faces and leather gear. Across the street at Merry's Fashion with Passion, a small troupe of belly dancers performed. Free food and beverages were available. Hospitality was in unlimited supply.Angel in the window at Phoenix and Crow I was so excited about the angel I walked fast. My husband trailed me with the camera. Okay, there's the angel in the window. Isn't she beautiful? Wrapped in Angel Wings And there you have it, me wrapped in angel's wings while listening to The Renaissance by Q-tip on my iPod. How much more soul do you want? Q-Tip Renassiance Phoenix and Crow sells celtic jewelry, fine art and scented candles. They are located at 2754 E. Broadway Ave., Long Beach CA 90803. The Renaissance by Q-Tip Worth the Wait

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008
A month after the release of Renaissance by Q-Tip, I finally got to download the album from iTunes and use up portion of the $50 gift card I got for my birthday. It wasn't all easy breezy. It was a four-step process. It might have been simpler to drive to a store and buy it. Four Steps to Purchasing Renaissance from Q-Tip on iTunes. **had to buy the album on my desktop because my laptop didn't have enough room to download it **had to get the latest version of iTunes before I could download it because it comes with some super-cool video **had to agree to the terms of service (luckily I didn't have to read it ;) **had to verify that I really wanted to buy it, twice. Answer, yes, YES!!! But for Q-Tip, it's worth it. This man has the skills. I've been a Q-tip fan as early as Groove is in the Heart. and I FREAKED over People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. (I couldn't embed the I Left My Wallet in El Segundo video but it is available on YouTube for viewing). I still play that CD regularly. In fact, It was an integral part of my Thanksgiving festivities this year. If you want to feel good, groove out and even get a little bit of soul 'food', buy Renaissance by Q-Tip on iTunes. It's been 9 years since he released his last solo album, Amplified. The history of Q-Tip and Renaissance is at Wikipedia.
