Rivers Cuomo Picture in Rolling Stone Magazine

Friday, January 9th, 2009

cuomorollingstone Since I was in the room when this photo was taken and I’m closely related to the photographer, I can’t help but get excited that its in Rolling Stone Magazine.

Rivers Cuomo (Weezer front man) did a special hootenanny at Fingerprints Records in Long Beach back in November. It was the day Alone II – Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo was released in stores. By some last minute change of plans, me and my husband Michael went to the event as journalists on behalf of the LAist.com. Michael Zampelli shot photos and I captured the evenings events in writing.

Cuomo Rivers at Fingerprints in Long BeachThere were some cool little milestones along the way such as getting on the week around the ists list, having the photo published on The Rolling Stone and District Weekly’s websites and seeing that the event itself was front page local news in the Press Telegram. Plus, I was in a photo that was published on PressTelegram.com (I’m in the red sweater, standing beside Rivers Cuomo).

Today’s milestone is the biggest and best of all so far; a photo published in Rolling Stone magazine. I’ve been looking at music magazines most of my life. Cool photos of my favorite musicians was probably one of things I most looked forward to seeing. It’s fun to be a part of the story in the making. Major props to Michael Zampelli AKA Rinkrat for this noteable accomplishment.

Wow, the song of the week incapsulates my life completely. My Brain is Working Overtime by Rivers Cuomo.

After all, I’ve written 15 blogs in the past 5 days, 7 were about Rivers Cuomo. I’m not a stalker fan, I swear, just jazzed to be doing some things I’m passionate about. Have fun this week.

Rivers Cuomo in Long Beach – Front Page News

Monday, December 1st, 2008

It just keeps getting better. I didn’t realize it but the Rivers Cuomo hootenanny in Long Beach was front page news and I was right alongside Press Telegram staffers soaking it all in (my story appears on LAist.com).

Spin magazine was also in the house. They have a short video and write up on their site and plan to have a complete video sometime later today. While searching Google, I discovered my name is even on USA Today.com (they linked to the Gothamist feed).

Even though I know it’s not about me, it’s fun to be a part of history in the making. Plus, thanks to the Internet I can actually watch the process unfold from various points around the world while sitting at the kitchen table listening to my copy of Alone II – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo. Buy it today on iTunes.

Rivers Cuomo Story Featured on ‘Week Around the Ists’ List

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Rivers Cuomo at Fingerprints in Long Beach photo by Michael ZampelliEarlier this week, I was excited to share details about a piece I wrote for the LAist. It was about the in-store hootenanny with Rivers Cuomo of Weezer and the release of his latest CD: Alone II – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo.

Today the story was featured on a “Week Around the Ists” list. That means, a mention of the story and a link will be syndicated around the world at the following websites: Gothamist.com (New York), SFist.com (San Francisco), Seattlest.com (Seattle, WA), Shanghaiist.com (Shanghai), Houstonist.com (Houston, TX), Londonist.com (London), Chicagoist.com (Chicago), Torontoist.com (Toronto, Canada), DCist (Washington, DC) and more. Woo hoo. That means my words get to go on a world tour.

I’ll Admit, I Wasn’t Really at The Rivers Cuomo Record Release Hootenanny

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Cuomo Rivers at Fingerprints in Long BeachEven though the Press-Telegram caught a photo of me standing right next to Rivers Cuomo on the day Alone II – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo was released in stores, I wasn’t really there. (Just kidding, that’s me in the red sweater).

I’m not saying the Press-Telegram is guilty of inaccuracy in journalism, it’s just that when I was standing there, I really wasn’t there. I wasn’t fully tuned into what a special moment I was experiencing.

Instead, I was wondering, “when will it get started?” When it took an hour for them to play 3 songs, I was thinking, “Oh my God, how late are we going to be here?” After 4 hours, I started thinking, “My feet hurt, I wish there was somewhere to sit down.”

It took me about 24 hours of reflecting and listening to Alone II numerous times to realize, I experienced a freaking miracle this week and I missed the whole damn thing while it was happening.

Luckily, I can choose to be present at any moment. So, right now I’m pretty jazzed about the fact that someday, after lots of people realize how cool this CD is, and, after I see the video or hear the edited, publicized recording from that night, I’m going to be able to say, “I was at this show. Only 125 people were there, and I was one of them.” I need to take a moment to soak that in. Thanks for your cooperation.

Oh, by the way, the good thing is, I was there to write a story for the LAist, that’s why I hung in there ’til the bitter end and tried to pay close attention and take good notes. To read my write-up and see the entire photo gallery, visit www.laist.com.

Rivers Cuomo Photo Gallery from Fingerprints

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Like I mentioned in an earlier blog, the Press Telegram was at the Rivers Cuomo hootenany. They managed to capture a couple of photos with me in them. Here I am in the red sweater, standing right next to Cuomo. My husband is on the other side of me. This is from the beginning of the evening before the place filled up. To see the entire gallery, visit the Press-Telegram on-line. There are also some great photos and a write-up at pitchforkmedia.com.

Rivers Cuomo Video from Fingerprints

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I just posted a blog earlier today about the new CD, Alone II – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo and the hootenanny at Fingerprints. The Press-Telegram was there with a video camera. You can actually see a sliver of my red sweater and the side of my head if you know exactly where to look (2:20-2:23 see the red sweater sticking out at the far right side of the screen. My husband’s head and camera is pretty much in front of Rivers’ face during the song Buddy Holly).

In any case, the event was rejuvenating. It felt good to be in a room full of musicians and fans who were all excited to be there. Turns out, some people travelled from out of state to participate. Lucky me, I practically coulda walked there. I also wrote a story for the LAist. Check it out >>>

Weezer Singer Rivers Cuomo Conducts Hootenanny at Fingerprints in Long Beach

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Rivers Cuomo at Fingerprints in Long Beach photo by Michael ZampelliI was one of those lucky enough to get a copy of Alone II – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo the day it came out. And I didn’t realize how lucky I was until now that I also got to spend an evening up-close and personal with Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo and about 100 of his hardcore fans this Tuesday.

At the time, I absorbed the entire event as somewhat of an outsider because in all honesty, the only songs I knew before this in-store were Undone (The sweater song) and Buddy Holly. I can honestly say I never owned a Weezer song in my life. Luckily, a last minute change in plans made it possible for me to attend and document all the details of the Rivers Cuomo hootenanny at Fingerprints in Long Beach and pick up a copy of Alone II. The event really was a hoot and Rivers Cuomo is a musician with diverse influences and flexibility which makes his new CD more like a historical journey than a snapshot of a man.

The entire write-up and photo gallery is at the LAist. Come check it out >>>
