Do Anything You Wanna Do Lyrics

I’m gonna break out of the city
Leave the people here behind
Searching for adventure
It’s the kind of life to find
Tired of doing day jobs
With no thanks for what I do
I know I must be someone
Now I’m gonna find out who

Why don’t you ask them what they expect from you ?
Why don’t you tell them what you’re gonna do
You’ll get so lonely, maybe it’s better that way
It ain’t you only, you got something to say
Do anything you wanna do
Do anything you wanna do

I don’t need no politicians to tell me things I shouldn’t be
Neither no opticians to tell me what I oughta see
No-one tells you nothing even when you know they know
They tell you what you should be
They don’t like to see you grow

Why don’t you ask them what they expect from you ?
Why don’t you tell them what you’re gonna do
You’ll get so lonely, maybe it’s better that way
It ain’t you only, you got something to say
Do anything you wanna do
Do anything you wanna do

I’m gonna break out of the city
Leave the people here behind
Searching for adventure
It’s the kind of life to find
Tired of doing day jobs
With no thanks for what I do
I know I must be someone
Now I’m gonna find out who

Why don’t you ask them what they expect from you ?
Why don’t you tell them what you’re gonna do
You’ll get so lonely, maybe it’s better that way
It ain’t you only, you got something to say
Do anything you wanna do
Do anything you wanna do
Do anything you wanna do

Song of the Week – 9-1-09 – The Uprising by Muse

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Watch/Listen on YouTube.

Will you be victorious or will the paranoia pull you in?

Lyrics for Uprising by Muse

The paranoia is in bloom, the PR
The transmissions will resume
They’ll try to push drugs
Keep us all dumbed down and hope that
We will never see the truth around

Another promise, another scene, another
A package not to keep us trapped in greed
With all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Interchanging mind control
Come let the revolution take it’s toll if you could
Flick the switch and open your third eye, you’d see that
We should never be afraid to die

Rise up and take the power back, it’s time that
The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that
Their time is coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Song of the Week – 8-4-09 – You Can Get It If You Really Want by Jimmy Cliff

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Watch the video on YouTube.

Lyrics for You Can Get It If You Really Want

You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try
Try and try
you’ll succeed at last

I know it
Listen to me

Rome was not built in a day
Opposition will come your way
But the hotter the battle you see
It’s the sweeter the victory, now

You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try
Try and try, you’ll succeed at last

Persecution you must bear
Win or lose you’ve got to get your share
Got your mind set on a dream
You can get it, though hard it may seem now

You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try
Try and try
You’ll succeed at last

You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try
Try and try
You’ll succeed at last

You can get it if you really want – I know it
You can get it if you really want – I show it
You can get it if you really want – So don’t give up now
You can get it if you really want – Keep on doing it

You’ve Got The Power, A Musical Reminder

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Just in case you needed a reminder (I did), you’ve got the power. Don’t have to buy it, don’t have to earn it, it’s just there. I’m gonna use it all day, everyday.

I’ve Got The Power Lyrics by Snap

I’ve got the power
hey yeah heh

Like the crack of the whip I snap attack
Front to back in this thing called rap
Dig it like a shovel rhyme devil
On a heavenly level
Bang the bass turn up the treble
Radical mind day and night all the time
Seven to fourteen Wise, Divine
Maniac brainiac winning the game
I’m the lyrical Jesse James

Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh yeah-eah-eah-eah-eah-eah
Gettin’ kinda heavy

It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda heavy
It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda heavy
It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda heavy
It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda heavy

I’ve got the power
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
I’ve got the power oh-oh-oh-oh

I’ve got the power
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
I’ve got the power oh-oh-oh-oh

It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic
It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic
It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic
It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic

Quality I possess, some say I’m fresh
When my voice goes through the rest
Of the microphone that I am holdin’
Copywritten lyrics so they can’t be stolen
If they are, Snap!
Don’t need the police to try to save them
Your voice will seize so please stay off my back
Or I will attack and you don’t want that

I’ve got the power
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
I’ve got the power oh-oh-oh-oh

Lost lyrics by Coldplay featuring Jay Z

Just because I’m losing
Doesn’t mean I’m lost
Doesn’t mean I’ll stop
Doesn’t mean I’m across

Just because I’m hurting
Doesn’t mean I’m hurt
Doesn’t mean I didn’t get what I deserved
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river that I tried to cross
Every door I ever tried was locked
Oh and I’m just waiting ’til the shine wears off

You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn’t mean you’ve won
‘Cause along may come
A bigger one

468x60Blondbanner

And you’ll be lost
Every river that you tried to cross
Every gun you ever held went off
Oh and I’m just waiting until the firing stopped
Oh and I’m just waiting ’til the shine wears off

[Jay-Z]
Aha, I gotcha, uh…
With the same sword they knight you, they gon’ good night you with
Shit, that’s only half if they like you
That ain’t even the half what they might do
Don’t believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
See Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas
See Caesar, see Brutus, see success is like suicide
Suicide, it’s a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified
Media meddles, niggaz sue you, you settle
Every step you take, they remind you you’re ghetto
So it’s tough being Bobby Brown
To be Bobby then, you have to be Bobby now
And the question is, “Is to have had and lost
Better than not having at all?”
Because I’m…

Oh and I’m, just waiting ’til the shine wears off
Oh and I’m, just waiting ’til the shine wears off

Stay Positive by The Hold Steady

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

I’m always thinking about what I learned by being involved in the punk movement early in it’s development.

I have first hand experience seeing everyday blokes get high in the garage in the daytime and stand on stage in the night time. I admired their determination and was entertained by their music but I didn’t really idolize them because I knew they were the same dudes who were dope sick in the morning and threw their smelly socks on the floor.

Musicians are just people who are really creative and determined and somehow, when you get four guys together with ideas for songs they can make it happen eventually…if they can learn to work together somehow. The bands that didn’t make it were mainly the ones who fought, got too heavy into drugs or didn’t have a common vision (which usually caused the fights).

itunes logoStay Positive by Hold Steady pretty much sums up my feelings about the underground music scene and life in general. So, I thought I’d share. Listen to a clip or buy it on iTunes.

Read Lyrics to Stay Positive by The Hold Steady

I’ve got a lot of old friends that’re getting back in touch
and it’s a pretty good feeling yea it feels pretty good
I get a lot of double takes when I’m coming around the corners
and its mostly pretty nice its mostly pretty alright
’cause most kids give me credit for being down with it
when it was back in the day
back when things were way different
when the Youth of Today and the early Seven Seconds
taught me some of life’s most valuable lessons

There’s gonna come a time when the scene’ll seem less sunny
it’ll probably get druggy and the kids’ll seem too skinny
there’s gonna come a time when she’s gonna have to go
with whoever’s gonna get her the highest
there’s gonna come a time when the true scene leaders
forget where they differ and get ‘big picture’

cause the kids at their shows, they’ll have kids of their own
the sing-a-long songs’ll be our scriptures

We gotta stay positive
We gotta stay positive
We gotta stay positive
We gotta stay positive

Musical Interlude

When the chaperone crowned us the king and the queen
I knew that we’d arrived at a unified scene
and all those little lambs from my dreams
well they were there too

’cause its one thing to start it with a positive jam
and its another thing to see it all through

and we couldn’t of even done this if it wasn’t for you
We gotta stay positive
We gotta stay positive
We gotta stay positive

P.S. This is why I want everyone to sign the petition to keep punk rock Fungus 53 on XM Radio. Please sign it and share this blog with your friends.

Lyrics to Since Yesterday by Strawberry Switchblade:

Just close your eyes and then remember
The thoughts you’ve locked away
When tomorrow comes you’ll wish
You had today

And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It’s so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday

If you’re still there when it’s all over
I’m scared I’ll have to say
That a part of you has gone
Since yesterday

And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It’s so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday

La La La La…

Well, maybe this could be the ending
with nothing left of you
A hundred wishes couldn’t say
I don’t want to

And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It’s so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday

La La La La…

It’s so clear that all we have now
Are thoughts of yesterday

Song of the Week – 9-30-08 – Good Time by The Brazilian Girls

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Brazilian Girls widget by 6L & AC

This week’s song presents a simple concept: having a good time, all the time. It’s probably what most people ultimately want but sometimes we think we need to have, be or do something to accomplish it. Other times, we’re just stuck in a cycle of repeating past drama. I’ve been guilty of both. But for now I’m gonna let that go and see if I can have a good time all the time despite it all.
