Femininity, Friendship and The Sheri and Erin Show on Blog Talk Radio

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

wwofdisneyAs a young girl I loved things like watching the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. I loved playing outside, listening to my musical jewelry box with the twirling ballerina inside and I loved to create things.

This video was inspired by that and more and offers me the perfect excuse to tell you about The Sheri and Erin Show – Time to Gal Vanize.

This show is designed to help you let go of self-imposed limitations and get reacquainted with joy, authenticity and zest for life. You can click on the player below to go to the show page and/or listen to a recent episode.

U.S. Rock and Roll History – Free Video Archives

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Today I had the opportunity to sit in on a History of Rock class taught by Jim Simmons at Long Beach City College. It was a lot of fun and I learned a few things. For example, I didn’t know that the Monkees were a 100% fabricated band. They were chosen during open casting call and judge’s decisions were based more on acting skills and appearance than musical talent.

This fabricated band was the brainchild of Don Kirshner. Once the Monkees fizzled out, Don Kirshner went on to produce a show called Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert. I went on-line to see if I could find any video and I came across a site called Historic Films.com. I didn’t find Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert specifically but I did watch news footage of Einsten, John F. Kennedy’s inauguration, 70’s rock and anti-war/pro-peace rallies. It was a pretty fun way to spend a 1/2 hour and I’m hoping I can get a hold of some of those videos and post them here.

In the meantime, here’s a Monkees video I found on YouTube:

Some of you younger folks may have heard this song for the first time in the movie Shrek performed by Smash Mouth.

In the 80’s there was a whole mod thing going on and at that time the Monkees had a resurgence. I went to see them at the Pacific Amphitheater. I got my ticket signed by Rodney Bingenheimer (AKA Rodney on the ROQ) from KROQ it was pretty cool.

Rivers Cuomo Video from Fingerprints

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I just posted a blog earlier today about the new CD, Alone II – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo and the hootenanny at Fingerprints. The Press-Telegram was there with a video camera. You can actually see a sliver of my red sweater and the side of my head if you know exactly where to look (2:20-2:23 see the red sweater sticking out at the far right side of the screen. My husband’s head and camera is pretty much in front of Rivers’ face during the song Buddy Holly).

In any case, the event was rejuvenating. It felt good to be in a room full of musicians and fans who were all excited to be there. Turns out, some people travelled from out of state to participate. Lucky me, I practically coulda walked there. I also wrote a story for the LAist. Check it out >>>

Song of the Week – 10-6-08 – Since Yesterday by Strawberry Switchblade

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

This week’s song is by Strawberry Switchblade. The video of Since Yesterday is sure to give you an 80’s flashback feeling. If you liked Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cindy Lauper or Bow Wow Wow, you’ll love singers Jill Bryson and Rose McDowall.

Lyrics to Since Yesterday by Strawberry Switchblade:

Just close your eyes and then remember
The thoughts you’ve locked away
When tomorrow comes you’ll wish
You had today

And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It’s so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday

If you’re still there when it’s all over
I’m scared I’ll have to say
That a part of you has gone
Since yesterday

And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It’s so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday

La La La La…

Well, maybe this could be the ending
with nothing left of you
A hundred wishes couldn’t say
I don’t want to

And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It’s so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday

La La La La…

It’s so clear that all we have now
Are thoughts of yesterday

Noel Gallagher of Oasis Pushed by a Heckler – a Victimology Lesson

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

In Victimology class we talk about how the actions of one person impacts many. This video is a perfect example. It would be tempting and common to look at this video and get caught in the drama. It would be easy to judge it and analyze it.

I challenge you to do this: notice, that in a crowd of thousands, only one punk guy caused the whole problem. One guy put a halt to a concert and created negative vibes for thousands of people. Sometimes we forget to look at the big picture because we are zeroed in on the drama. We fail to realize how much we have in common, how powerful unity could be. Please take a moment to consider it. Just for laughs :)

Me for President: A Great Example of Virual Marketing Success

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Missing Russian Tortoise signs plastered on phone poles is one thing but a streaming video that can be played worldwide is quite another.

Did you know I’m running for president? Well, neither did I. It turns out someone nominated me and I’m winning the Internet vote by a landslide. Watch the video for details.

I’ll have to admit. The potential for misunderstanding here really reminds me of War of the Worlds. In this digital world where everything can be remastered it is more important than ever to remember the old maxim, “don’t believe everything you see”.
