Dread Zeppelin lead man Jah Paul Jo sent a message to his friends on My Space. It said a few things that I thought some of you would like to know.
**Dread Zeppelin is celebrating their 20th Anniversary in 2009
**The day of the celebration just so happens to coincide with "The Kings" birthday, January 8
**There's gonna be a new DVD and several 20th Anniversary CDs and swag releases in 2009. You can pre-order the first DVD at a special discount price on their new website, dreadzeppelin.tv.
**They are looking for stories from people who saw them between 1989 and 1995.
Well, if you've got a story, like I do, you might want to go to their MySpace page and add them as a friend.
My story is, I saw them at an N.A. (Narcotics Anonymous) dance in Stanton CA, in 1989. They were so much fun. The singer dresses and acts just like Elvis Presley while gyrating his hips and singing Led Zeppelin classics like Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven. In my memory, they were one of the first bands to ever do the whole "lounge music meets rock and roll" thing and they do it very well.
I will never forget the show itself. The singer was draped in several white scarves (as in torn strips of sheet) around his neck. Every once in a while, he'd whip one off from around his neck and swing it around in circles. The women were supposed to swoon. I did. And he threw the scarf into the audience. I held it like a sacred cloth and even took it home and saved it for a little while.
This video probably best represents what I experienced. If you have a Dread Zeppelin story, leave a comment here or go over to their MySpace page and add them as a friend.
I squealed in delight when I found out that Mongoloid by Devo was the song of the week. I had an instant 80's flashback.
It was probably 1982. I was attending Costa Mesa High School. I had ordered the yellow jumpsuit directly from Devo. My friends dared me to wear it to school and I did but I got sent to the office and had to take it off.
Enjoy and exercise your personal freedoms they are precious and could be taken away if you don't pay attention.
Mongoloid lyrics by Devo
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
Happier than you and me
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
One chromosome too many
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see
And he wore a hat
And he had a job
And he brought home the bacon
So that no one knew
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
His friends were unaware
Mongoloid he was a mongoloid
Nobody even cared

A friend of mine who works for the Obama campaign sent me a link to this video on YouTube. I found it pretty interesting. I added a second video just for equal representation from a liberal and conservative side of things. Swinging the election impacts all Americans and is a violation of democracy.
In case you think the previous video is just a bunch of liberals with a conspiracy theory, check out this interview with republican cyber security expert Stephen Spoonamore who thinks the last two presidential elections have been rigged. This video is part 4 of a 10 part series.

Fellow Californians: You have until October 20th to register to vote if you haven't registered already. All Americans, please vote on November 4.
It doesn't have a theme per se but it is quirky and crazy and it can probably be added to the list of "Things that make you go hmmm."

I couple of days ago I wrote a blog and posted photos from our Laugh Tour; a day in Belmont Shore posting and passing out signs that say "Laugh". We have no agenda. We aren't selling anything. We just know that laughter is contagious and we wanted to spread a little of it around. Heck, maybe it's even selfish, you laugh, we laugh, we all feel good. What's wrong with that?
We spoke to and laughed with a lot of people on this day. Only a tiny portion is caught on tape but we hope you'll enjoy it. A couple of highlights: at 51 seconds, that's Orange County Roller Girl boodeefull #88 that we're talking to. At 1:41 you'll see Fingerprint's music store owner Rand and his distributor friend. We talked to them for a couple of minutes off camera about University by the Sea, a downtown Long Beach cultural event that included a full day of live music. Fingerprint's had it's own stage all day. He said the day went well.
As you'll notice, I have my iPod on at all times. Music carries me through so many of the highlights of my life. I like to associate music with good times because then when I listen to the song the next time, it brings back good memories. So, I'm going to post my iPod playlist for this Laugh Tour day. Subscribe to the blog if you want to get playlists on an ongoing basis.
This week's song presents a simple concept: having a good time, all the time. It's probably what most people ultimately want but sometimes we think we need to have, be or do something to accomplish it. Other times, we're just stuck in a cycle of repeating past drama. I've been guilty of both. But for now I'm gonna let that go and see if I can have a good time all the time despite it all.
